
The National Cadet Corps in India is a voluntary organization which
recruits cadets from high schools and colleges all over India. The
Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades.
The content of NCC course includes basic training in drill and ceremonials,
field craft, map reading and navigation, the use and handling of
infantry weapons and the element of military organization etc. Attachment
to Military units are arranged for first hand experience and training
camps are held annually in various parts of India for selected cadets.
The officers and cadets have no liability for active military service
once they complete their course.

The aims of NCC are:
- To develop qualities of Character, Courage, Comradeship, Discipline,
Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure and the ideals
of Selfless Service amongst the Youth of the Country.
- To Create a Human Resource of Organized, Trained and Motivated
Youth, to Provide Leadership in all Walks of life and be Always
Available for the Service of the Nation.
- To Provide a Suitable Environment to Motivate the Youth to Take
Up a Career in the Armed Forces.
Who can join NCC?
Any regular student of the college can join NCC. The services of
NCC are free of cost. Students have to fill the prescribed form
available in NCC office. At the time of enrolment, a token enrolment
fee is charged.
How to Join?
Application for Enrolment:
(1) A student desirous of being enrolled in the Senior Division
shall apply to the Associate NCC Officer the company on a prescribed
form.
(2) The Officer to whom an application under sub-rule (1) has been
made, shall cause the applicant to fill up and sign in his presence
a statement in Form I.
Verification
When an application is made to the ANO under rule 7, he shall satisfy
himself that the application is in proper form and that the applicant
fulfils the conditions of enrolment specified in rule 5 or 6, as
the case may be. The ANO may make such further enquiry regarding
the suitability of the applicant for enrolment in the company.
Medical Examination
If the ANO is satisfied that the application is in order, and that
the applicant fulfils the conditions of enrolment and that he is
suitable for enrolment in the company or part thereof in which he
desires to be enrolled, he shall cause the applicant to be medically
examined.
If the ANO is not satisfied that the application is in order or
that the applicant fulfils the conditions of enrolment or that he
is suitable to be enrolled in the company or part thereof or the
applicant is reported to be medically unfit for service in the National
Cadet Corps, the ANO shall reject the application and shall inform
the applicant accordingly.
Activities
Various camps which are organized for the cadets are as follows:
COMBINED ANNUAL TRAINING CAMP (CATC)
The chief aim of Annual Training camps is to impart collective
training to the cadets with special emphasis on the development
of qualities of leadership and military skills. Participation in
these camps is an essential requirement for appearing at `B`, and
`C` certificate examination.
NATIONAL INTEGRATION CAMP (NIC)
This camp is organized by NCC Directorate with the aim to develop
the spirit of National Integration among the NCC cadets.
BASIC LEADERSHIP CAMP (BLC) AND ADVANCE LEADERSHIP CAMP
The aim of these camps are to develop basic leadership qualities
among the cadets.
REPUBLIC DAY CAMP (RDC)
This camp is organised by DG NCC at the time of Republic day celebrations
of the country. It is held from 9th to 29th January every year in
Delhi. In this camp selected cadet from all over the country take
part. During the camp the cadets take part in Republic Day Parade,
Service Chiefs Parade, Prime Ministers Rally and in addition, compete
in inter directorate training events. For selection to Republic
Day Camp, the directorates also organize Pre-RDC.
SOCIAL SERVICE CAMP
NCC has as a responsible organization has also included Social
service as one of the subjects in its training programme. It exposes
the cadets to various social problems so that they can be sensitized
about these problems. NCC is at present participating in the programmes
like:
- Adult Education,
- Anti Dowry Drive,
- Anti Malaria Drive,
- Blood Donation,
- Environment Conservation and Wild Life Protection, etc
ADVENTURE TRAINING
NCC training in martial subjects like drill and Weapons Training
at times leads to monotony. Hence NCC training has to have other
elements to keep their interest alive. The aims of Adventure Training
is to develop and enhance the spirit of adventure which is inherent
in all human beings in order to :
- Make a cadet confident and disciplined physically and mentally.
- Develop the ability to take risk for a given purpose.
- Develop team spirit and co-operation in cadets, and
- Develop leadership qualities.
At present following adventure camps are organized:
- Rock climbing
- Trekking and Mountaineering
- Cycle expeditions
- Water skiing
- Rowing and rafting
- Para jumping and sky diving

Incentives for NCC cadets
Relaxation to the extent of five percent of marks in the aggregate
or a subject, as the case may be is given to the cadets having “A”,
“B”, or “C” certificate, in the minimum eligibility conditions at
the time of admission to various courses like Postgraduate/B.Ed./Engineering/Medical
in colleges and universities of India. Certain seats are reserved
for NCC cadets in Armed Forces.
